【Close-Up Exhibition】 Egyptian Mummies from Akoris
10 December 2022 (Sat.) - 30 January 2023 (Mon.) 【Close-Up Exhibition】 Egyptian Mummies from Akoris
Akoris, located in the Arab Republic of Egypt, retains traces of peoples’ lifestyles from the Old Kingdom to the late Roman period (Coptic period). A Japanese team began a survey in 1981 and discovered an ancient settlement, limestone quarry, and cemetery dating back 3,000 years. About 100 interred human skeletons and mummies have been excavated from the cemetery, and some mummies have been examined using a CT scan as a new attempt. This exhibition introduces the results of the excavations by the Japanese team at Akoris and the latest findings obtained by CT image analysis of the mummies.
