【Autumn Special Exhibition】 Gods and Humans in the Ancient Orient – Welcome to the Mythological World

16 September - 12 November 2017 【Autumn Special Exhibition】 Gods and Humans in the Ancient Orient - Welcome to the Mythological World

Since the dawn of humans, people have tried to understand and explain their surroundings in terms of the relationship between humans and the divine – How were the sky and the earth created? How did humans come to exist? Why do humans have to die? We call these stories myths. They are still fascinating, suggestive and evocative, and furthermore they are even motifs of novels, films and plays in modern society. Myths are entertainment and a device for us to share social knowledge and ethics at the same time.

This special exhibition shows the diversity of mythologies that are displayed through art works and such as statues, statuettes, paintings, seals, potteries, vessels and other forms from Greece, Rome, ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, China and Japan. They also tell us the meanings and roles of myths in modern society.
